Report for Week Ending Saturday 31.08.2019

It was a welcome return to football this week end for teams and players in Colchester and East Essex Football League as eight teams played their opening matches of the new 2019-2020 Season.


Abbey Fields took on Langham Lodgers at Birch Park, winning 2-1, with Kenny Dilloway netting for Langham. Stoke by Nayland entertained Tiptree Engaine ‘A’ at Webbs Meadow in Nayland, and it was the visitors who took an early 2-0 lead through Benjy Firth who netted in the fourth and the sixth minutes. The first, heading home a Paul Ketley cross beating both a Stoke defender and goal keeper to the ball, and the second a right foot shot from the corner of the six-yard area. They held onto this lead to the break despite Stoke creating chances to level hitting a post twice and missing a fifthteenth minute penalty. They eventually got back into the game two minutes after the restart when Liam Druce shot home from ten yards. However, the Stoke defence was undone again just nine minutes later as half-time substitute Ozmar Razek hit home from the edge of the area. Midway through the second period on sixty-nine minutes Stoke pulled another goal back as James Hardy netted a left foot shot from the by line. Once again Tiptree restored their two goal advantage with ten minutes left as Ozmar Razek claimed his second goal of the game touching home a long clearance from his keeper to give Tiptree the 4-2 away victory.


Elsewhere Parkeston Welfare Park hosted Stanway Athletic Reserves and took a halftime 1-0 lead before going on to win 2-1, with their goals coming from Robbie Connah and Shaun Cook. Thomas Hayter netted for Stanway Athletic Reserves. In the other game Sporting Rebels took on the Ramsey & Mistley 1st team at Plough Corner in Clacton, and again this match also ended in a 2-1 home victory. Ramsey took a first minute lead through Chris Stratton , but were unable to add to this and were eventually undone with Sporting goals from Ryan Ivell and substitute Aaron Brown.
